Mark Gander, AECOM Director, was among a group of

City University of New York (CUNY), Hunter College in New York City, in
March, 2013. Gander discussed ways to reduce energy consumption,

Class Tracks Geared To Teach Empowerment thru Education − New Green Global Contracting & Financing Opportunities
The class workshops featured a Federal Contracting Track, moderated Mr. David Dickson, featuring abbreviated course that familiarized attendees with the concepts of how to do business with the Federal government, how to get registered, how to be notified for federal contracting opportunities, and how to market the procuring agencies.
The instructor was George Murray from the US Small Business Administration's Philadelphia District Office who prior to joining the SBA, George was a Federal government procurement consultant that helped his customers win over $10 billion of Federal contracts, followed by the "Agency Green Procurement Panel" of federal agencies procurement and subject matter experts on Green procurement opportunities.
Immediately followed by the Green Building (New Construction and Modernization),track moderated by Ms. Phyllis Carr, Vendor Alliance Manager, U.S. General Services Administration, Washington DC (Headquarters) Green Buildings: New Construction and Modernization, the presentations focused on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) an unprecedented effort to jump start our economy, create or save millions of jobs, and put a down payment on addressing long deferred challenges so our country can thrive in the 21st century. Presenters included Mr. Martin Weiland, Director of Subject Matter Expertise for GSA's National Program Management Office for ARRA, along with Kyle Wiest and Matthew Silkensen, Project Managers/Engineers, GSA's Mid-Atlantic Regional Office, provided an update on the progress that has been made to improve the overall sustainability performance of Federal assets and elevate GSA's goals for the future.
Another track focused on Green Technology & Innovation with presenters from Brookhaven Labs covering topics such as; Fuel Cell Technology and Bio Fuel and SIEMENS Energy & Automation expert providing a PV solar overview.
Both Finance Tracks were moderated by Ms. Maribel Aber, and were standing room only, one was on Financing for Renewable Energy Projects, presented by Mr. John Costlow, CET, CRM from SEF, followed by the Finance Experts Session presented by Ben Franklin Technologies and the United States Small Business Administration.
The Utility, Incentive & Rebates session was led by Mr. Kent Hibben, U.S. Department of Energy subject matter expert on energy efficiency and renewable energy issues. His accounts include DOE EERE and Science Offices, DOE SBIR/STTR program. PGW (Philadelphia Gas Works) presented as private subject matter experts on how energy incentives are applied. For example, PGW began, and continues, to install energy, lighting, heating, and cooling saving systems in office buildings. PGW's liquefaction process is fueled by gas pressure, not gas combustion saving energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. PGW uses solar energy power to aid in its land recycling program.
Another popular class was the Green Jobs Gearing for the New Economy, subject matter experts presented an overview on upcoming and current job opportunities in the marketplace, green technology to construction to administrative on national and regional and transcending to global. He is a Sustainability Subject Matter Expert who established the "Vertical Farm" to look at the possibility of agricultural sustainability within cities; another speaker was Hameed G. Nezhad, Ph.D., who earned his doctorate in energy management and policy from University of Pennsylvania. He is a Subject Matter Expert developing and managing energy research and evaluation programs and has more than 29 years experience working on energy projects in Armenia, China, Georgia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Japan, Latvia, Philippines, Pakistan, Syria, Taiwan, Thailand, Ukraine, United Kingdom and the United States; followed by Dr. Michel Boufadel Professor and Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Temple University and Subject Matter Expert in Environmental Hydrology and Ecohydrology, where he develops methods to account for changes in the environment due to natural and anthropogenic stressors. The Saturday, September 26, 2009, session featured WGES exhibitors who were also on hand at the Comcast Center to greet the general public. Workshops were conducted for the general public by leading subject matter experts; including, Mr. Richard Whiteford, author of "Wild Pennsylvania" published by Voyageur Press and has written well over 500 articles for newspapers, magazines, and other publications. Mr. Whiteford is a certified presenter for Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth. Mr. David Blumenfeld, President of UEE topics included solar energy, financing and incentives; Mr. Paul Glover teaches Metropolitan Ecology at Temple University, topic Green Jobs "New technologies and social organizations will make our lives healthier, easier and more secure" and presenter; Mr. Kent Hibben Department of Energy's (DOE) Headquarters Washington DC subject matter expert and spokesperson on energy efficiency and renewable energy (EERE) issues.
